    Mission Statement

The mission of the NAU–Yuma Writing Center is to empower NAU–Yuma and Extended Campuses students in all disciplines to become more confident, more effective writers.

Tuesday and Thursday: 9:00 AM-3:00 PM
    Friday: 9:00 AM-6:00 PM

Three Ways to Make an Appointment with a Writing Consultant

To maximize success, students should bring all relevant materials (assignment instructions, notes, textbook, etc.) to appointments.

    Onsite Support

Face-to-face consultations are held in the Academic Complex building room AC-256 at the NAU–Yuma Branch Campus, 2020 S. Avenue 8E in Yuma (Arizona Western College main campus). Consultations may also be held in other locations on AWC’s main campus.

    Online Support

To receive support via email, students may send an email to nauyuma.writingcenter@nau.edu with the following required information:

    • An email subject line of “Consultation Request”
    • The assignment instructions, attached as Word doc or Rich Text Format
    • The current draft, attached as Word doc or Rich Text Format
    • The course prefix and number (Ex: BBA 305W, Psych 302W, etc.) and professor’s name
    • Request for specific assistance (help with APA format, thesis, organization, etc.)

Please allow up to three business days for a response, as well as time to revise paper after receiving feedback for improvement.

    Role of the Writing Center

Writing consultants provide tools and strategies to help student improve their own papers. However, consultants do not proofread, edit, or revise students' papers.

    Improvement Takes Time

Students and faculty should be aware that not all of a student’s writing issues can be addressed during a one-hour writing consultation. Consultants may recommend follow-up appointments in order to help students strengthen writing skills over a reasonable period of time.

    Additional Support

    • Referrals to counseling and other non-writing support services.
