The Yuma Sun recently wrote about the success of the grads of NAU–Yuma’s new Bachelor of Arts in Social Work degree.

“The first 12 graduates of NAU–Yuma’s new social work program are now employed at a variety of agencies throughout Yuma and Imperial counties.

Northern Arizona University–Yuma recently launched a new Bachelor’s of Social Work (BASW) program with a specific focus on U.S. and Mexico border issues and populations, one of the first of its kind in the country.

“Our social work program is the first and only social work program in the United States that focuses on U.S. Mexico border issues and populations,” said Bill Pederson, NAU–Yuma social work professor. “Thus, our 12 graduates are the only 12 students in the nation with this type of training and expertise.”

In working with area social serve providers, Pederson said that they have commented that NAU–Yuma’s BASW was the “degree of choice” for all the social workers that they hire.”
