Military Times has named Northern Arizona University among its Best for Vets: Colleges 2014 rankings.

In fact, the esteemed armed forces newsmagazine ranked NAU as the top school for veterans not just in Arizona but for the entire Southwest region. Nationally, NAU is ranked 36th out of 120 top schools.

“It is a true honor for NAU to be named one of the best colleges for veterans,” said Dr. Fred Hurst, senior vice president of NAU-Extended Campuses. “They’ve served our country with honor and NAU is committed to showing veterans the same commitment. It is a task we take very seriously and one we will continue to improve as we expand our military and veterans services.”

Military Times placed a new emphasis on academic rigor when compiling this year’s rankings. Other considered were service member enrollment, percentage of tuition covered by the GI Bill, service member programs, student loan default rates, student retention and graduation rates, and student-faculty ratio.
